The Galactic Senate: polls & voting for February 2002

Nothing gladdens our heart more than to see democracy in action in the science fiction and fantasy world. If you feel the same, dear user, then here's our current and past online polls, as voted for by many a fine fellow (you too can vote, but choose wisely) ...

You say Tomato, I say William Gibson.

British authors write science fiction novels, and hey, US authors write science fiction novels too. But when it comes to you fans who pays your money and takes your choice, does the nationality of an author make a difference to you? Is there such a thing as US-flavoured SF and British-flavoured SF? And whether you walk on the 'sidewalk' or the 'pavement', if a SF novel was from across the water, would it put you off buying it?

SF is SF, whichever side of the pond you're on. Get a grip man, look at the success of Harry Potter on both sides of the Atlantic. And look how popular writers like Harry Harrison, Moorcock, Arthur C Clarke, and Greg Bear are in both the UK and USA. A good book is a good book in any language, especially when it's in English. Now that weird frigging French Sci-Fi ... now, that's another story.

Count me out, you can keep your 'foreign' SF. Sod that for a game of soldiers, let's stick to our own flavour of SF. British SF is arty, dour, long-winded pace-less stuff written by scientists who should have been accountants, and US SF is TV-dinner level pap with two dimensional characters and over-the-top plots.
