Planet of the Apes remake - good or evil?

So, at long last Planet of the Apes is getting a new picnic on the banks of the River of SF. But is it a remake too far? Can we trust the brains behind Batman 2 and Edward ScissorHands to treat this SF masterpiece with the care it deserves ... without going so far up his own arse we'll need to send a search party to find him?

It's a remake too far. There are some films that just weren't designed to be remade. Planet of the Apes is just such a classic. What's next? A blooming remake of Star Wars with Brad Pitt as Luke Skywalker and Julia Roberts as Princess Leia? No. No. No. Definitely not.

Could be good. Yes, the time has come for a 21st century Planet of the Apes. This movie looks like it has a very interesting visual feel; the plot is not based too closely on the original movie, so there will be some new twists and suprises to keep us amused. This could be a mighty fine film.
