Harbringer
(a PSi-KICKS story)
© 1996
G.F Willmetts (UK)
I'm not really a Blank although I might
as well be one. Blanks are impossible for Psionics to read or, as
they prefer to call it, scan. Some Psionics cheat and can read a
Blank's body language but they can't dig beyond that.
Blanks are scan-proof. As such they can monitor a Psionic's activities
and some have got, so I hear, a licence to kill under certain circumstances.
Lucky them. I do that all the time. In their case, they'd better
be right.
I've heard that a distracted Psionic accidentally killed a Blank
who tried to interrupt him once. Blanks might be immune to scanning
but a telekinetic jolt, commonly called scooping, can reach even
them. Then there's me.
The big-league Psionics would rather not scan me as all. They fear
feedback and mental linkages. Something to do with continually crossing
other people's paths.
Psionics aren't that tough. I heard one mutter something about
walking under a ladder with a black cat would be preferable to me.
I hope he was joking. I'm really a nice person. Jack, my latest
shrink told me so. I'm just not very lucky for people around me.
Don't let your ability drive you to distraction, Jessie Opal. You're
more than that', he told me, Your gift just provides for a few different
options.'
