We don't normally review models and toys here. Far too many being released and we don't get them sent for review. The only reason why I am this time is because Product Enterprise are bringing some lines to a close and the prices have dropped significantly and selling out rather rapidly. If I was jumping to get them at the lower prices, it stands to reason those of you with a similar interest might want to know as well. So if you can't buy them direct, look elsewhere because they aren't going to be around for much longer. I had a talk to Steve Walker at Product Enterprise and he says their placing more emphasis on their Replica range. As magnificent as they might be, you also have to be rich to own them all.
In the meantime, if you can afford to go after the models that have dropped in price, you can find UFO's 'Lt. Gay Ellis' with a talking base down to £ 9.99 (UK) and 'The Avengers Twinset' talking version 2 down to £19.99 (UK). Product Enterprise has emptied their UK warehouse of these but look around on Amazon. These models are readily available in America incidentally.
I've got all three guarding my television set at the moment. All three figures have specially made clothes. I was a bit concerned about Steed and Emma having seen the first version but they've been re-sculptured and the clothes fit a little better. This is often a problem of working to 1/12 scale. Interestingly, they are to scale and Emma is a little shorter than Steed. Oddly enough, Gay Ellis is a little taller. It would be interesting to compare the actresses true heights for scale. These aren't action men type figures and they can actually stand away from their vocal stands and back rests should you want to pose them differently. Then again, would you really want to? The whole point of having speech chips is to hear them. Each of them has about a dozen sayings to flip through. All clean recordings with no static although I would have thought it might have been easier to wipe away a few chords of music with one of Steed's dialogues.
Getting likenesses today would have been done would have been a little trip through a laser. As both series are hitting over half a century now, the sculpturing is more dependent on photographic reference. Steed is rather superb although it's a shame that his bowler hat was part of this because it removes the option of having him hat less. It's a shame that the same consideration with Emma and Gay to have their mouths slightly open wasn't applied because it would have given them a bit more character. From a distance they look OK but close up it would have raised them a little above the traditional girl's dolls, especially as they both have plastic hair. Still, at these reduced prices, who would complain.
I should also point out they come with assorted accessories although how many you would put to use depends on how easy would think you could lose them. That is always the bane of collecting and putting models for show outside of their boxes. Still, I couldn't resist leaving Steed without his sword-stick or Emma with out her gun. Gay Ellis' pen and note-board will have to stay in the box. Don't lose those boxes, folks, if you ever have to sell them on they can end up being as valuable as the figures themselves.
The models of 'Supercar','Stingray' and 'Fireball XL-5' have already sold out at Product Enterprise themselves although look around on places like Amazon and you can find the latter two down to £ 9.99 (UK) each. The 'SPV' from 'Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons' is down to £ 9.99 (UK) as well now down from £29.99-£39.99 (UK) depending where you looked. I was expecting something of the size of the 'SHADO Mobile' but the size was probably nearer to the Dinky version although Captain Scarlet is attached and unlikely to escape if your children want to play with it.
Speaking of the 'SHADO Mobile', the first version with the gun turret is being re-issued in a couple months. Given the choice of the three Mobiles, it would have been the one to choose if you could only afford one. Probably why I have the other two and will have to wait on that one. Although expensive, having all three is the best investment.
Considering the interest in the Century 21 TV series, all of these models are worth investing in for long term although frankly, once you've got them, I don't think you'd want to sell them on. It would be more a question of deciding which ones to display outside of their boxes although frankly, they look just as attractive in them as well.
Stocks of all these models are also available from American suppliers at dollar equivalents. Don't leave it too late to own your own.
