Phantom Menace. But is it Art, Darling?

If you're lucky enough to live in the UK, sci-fi fans, then why not make a pilgrimage to London's Barbican Centre?

Why? Well read on …

Proving they have a wider definition of art than such great works of creative endeavour as 'pile of bricks' and 'pickled cow in tank', the City art crowd have gone all post-modern on us and launched a fab new exhibition: 'The Art of Star Wars'

Like the name says, the show features over two hundred models, painting, drawings and costumes from the four Star Wars films. And in our humble opinion, the best stuff on show has to be all the pre-production paintings and models - the bits that nearly made it into the movies, but just didn't quite.

There's also a full size pod racer on show, as well as the original costumes for C3P0, Darth Vader and Queen Amidala.

The show is on from the13th April to the 3rd September 2000 and when the Nest crew went for a whiz around the Barbican, the place was packed to the gunnels with fans, so unless you're going to visit off-peak, you might want to book well in advance.

The web site for the show is fairly minimalist, with not much content worth looking at, but it does have an online facility to buy advance tickets.

That's a poor show, Barbican peeps. This was your chance to a virtual show, stick up some web cams, really blitz some hits. But alas, it was not to be, it seems.

Anyway, if you're in the area, have a surf on over to www.theartofstarwars.co.uk
