Shortly
after I commenced reading this book, the thought came to me that this novel was
trying to be clever and witty. Then I decided that the novel was being too smart
for its own good: I began to lose the plot.
Then I metaphorically shut
the book and threw it into a corner in the room That's something you can't do
with electronic books, I'm afraid. For me 'The Matrix' was an excruciating
movie. The two follow-up efforts were worse. This 'War Bug' seems to follow the
same trend. An alternate reality exists in which some people are aware and others
aren't of their true state of existence. This time it's in the Internet where
things are happening. It also has talking dogs and pigs.

Of course, a threat to this alternate reality develops and the story is an attempt
to counteract the threat and make everything right again. I couldn't get my head
around the plot and the message the novel attempted to convey was unfathomable
to me at best. This is a very short review. Some books that you pick up
are impossible to get into and reading the near three hundred pages of this would
present an impossible task for me. Deciding not to do a review, I told Uncle Geoff
of my decision but he insisted that even a negative opinion such as this is still
worthwhile to express. To me, this was the opposite of a book you couldn't put
down. A review is an opinion from an individual so this is it, for what
it's worth. Many years ago I purchased a novel called 'The Dark Symphony'
and waded my way through it mainly because I'd forked out good money. It was in
my opinion utterly abominable. A friend visiting one afternoon picked it up and
asked what it was like. Pausing for a moment I then said, 'One of the best books
I've read. Fantastic! Brilliant!' A week later, he returned the book with
a more than strange look. He wasn't happy when I explained I'd wished a second
opinion and he pointed out that reading the novel had wasted a significant part
of his life. It was a bad trick to play and now, being older, for me life
becomes too valuable to waste reading stuff I don't enjoy.
